The whole program at UAF has stunk for so long. All the coaches, athletic directors, etc., have been at that university on the western side of the state until a dynasty has formed. They need to clean house and get some fresh blood.
Thank goodness we still have Arkansas State University at Jonesboro. And if we had half the backing UAF has we could field teams that could probably beat lower ranked teams than the Indians.
The name may change, but we will always be the Indians.
If you are really curious about what went on with our football team last year go to this website and read the articles. I am not sure who is maintaining the blog but at least one of the persons is Mitch Mustain's mother - Beck Campbell.
I work for a company based in Springdale and have a number of zealous Razorback fans who are close friends of mine and close to the Springdale sports scene. Gus Malzahn only shared his true reasons for leaving with a few close friends and I know two of them. My opinion is based primarily on facts that they and co-workers up there have shared with me. There were some things that went on up there that many Hog fans found deplorable on the part of Coach Nutt. Most tried to deny it early on but it became clear to even a Nutt fan such as myself that Coach Nutt himself was unscrupulous. With the contract that he had when it became necessary for him to leave for the benefit of the program he would not leave. And, for a number of reasons the administration did not want to make it look like a firing so he basically was able to extort the money in exchange for "resigning". Just another indication of the man's ethical standards. For what it is worth he had earned some of the money he got; it was a ridiculous contract that Broyles (who by the way is gone too for some of the same reasons) had given him.
Don't get me wrong -- I'm a Razorback fan. But isn't something out of whack when we give a sports coach $3.5 million to LEAVE the university, while college level professors, instructors and those entrusted with the extremely important task of educating our young people and preparing them for careers and vocations and work that hopefully will make a LASTING difference in our world are given mere pittance in comparision? What's it going to take to set priorities straight?
