HOLLY GROVE - Emma Lou Rivers, 82, of Holly Grove, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at her home. She was born April 7, 1925, in Holly Grove to Alexander Rivers and Bebie Owington-Rivers. She was a life long member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Holly Grove. She was a very active and dedicated member. She served on the Board of Trustees, Missionary Board, chairperson of the Church Anniversary Committee and Sunday School teacher. She was always willing to go out of her way whenever it came to working diligently for her church.

Her civic duties included being a member of the 4-H Club, Home Extension Demonstration Club and the Holly Grove Homecoming Club. She was a very hard working individual. She grew up working hard on her family's farm in Holly Grove. She also loved fishing, gardening and sports. She especially loved football and basketball. She also had a special love for cooking. She loved to cook and prepare new and different entrées.

Her parents; a brother, Ehrman Rivers; three sisters, Iola Rivers, Sarah Harper and Jettie Rivers, all preceded her in death.

Survivors are Pennsylvania Rivers-Hill of Pine Bluff; Mary Rivers-Tyler of St. Louis, Mo.; Cynthia and Jessie Rivers-Wallas of San Francisco, Calif.; and a host of other relative and friends.

Funeral servcies will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 .m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Highway 17 North in Holly Grove, with Rev. Larry Strong officiating. Internment wil be held in Hayes Cemetery by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.

Pallbearers are Joseph Westbook, Raymond Faison, Oliver Langston, McKinley Jones, Lawrence Faison and Dorian Dalin.

HOLLY GROVE Emma Lou Rivers, 82, of Holly Grove, died Saturday at her home. Three sisters, and a host of other relatives survive her. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul AME Church in Holly Grove. Internment will take place at Hayes Cemetery by Branscumb Funeral Home of Brinkley, (870) 734-2772.
