BRINKLEY Lugennia Peete, 102, of Brinkley, formerly of Holly Grove, widow of Jessie Peete, died Sunday, Nov. 18, at Cla-Clif Nursing and Rehab Center in Brinkley.
She was born March 2, 1905, in Holly Grove to Wilbon Hobson and Sallie Johnson Hobson.
Mrs. Peete was raised and attended school in Holly Grove. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Holly Grove. During her tenure she served on the Usher Board and as a member of the Missionary Society. She was a very dedicated and loyal member.
"Tootnie," as she was lovingly called, worked as a housekeeper and cook for many years before retiring. She loved fishing, raising flower gardens and doing whatever she could to make others happy. She especially enjoyed taking care of and spending quality time with her family and close friends.
Her parents, husband and a son, Andrew Goodrich, all preceded her in death.
Survivors are a son, Johnnie Walker of Clarendon; a daughter, Louella Williams of Chicago; three special nieces, Era Foster and husband Hollis of West Helena, Earnestine Hayes and Mildred Spencer and husband Lewis, all of St. Louis; a dear friend and caregiver, Maurice Young of Wheatley; 16 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday at Branscumb Funeral Home Chapel with minister Perry Brown officiating. Internment was in Mount Zion Cemetery in Clarendon by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
Pallbearers were Stevie Grandberry, James Williams, Redell Thompson, Richard Williams, Elvis Virgil and Ahmad Abdurahman.
