HOLLY GROVE -- Mockie Abramsom of Holly Grove was the first place winner in the 23rd annual water color exhibition held as part of the Warfield Music Festival in Helena.

The exhibition was held at the Hendricks Gallery Fine Arts Center at the Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas Helena campus.

A reception was held last week and winners were presented with their awards. Abramson received first place for her painting "Christmas Fish." She received a blue ribbon and a $500 cash prize. Winners' paintings were on display and available for viewing at the gallery last week.

Robert Riseling, professor of the Memphis College of Art, was the juror who chose the winners out of about 35 entries. Helena National Bank sponsored the watercolor event.

The Warfield events are in their 40th year.

Gov. Mike Beebe has appointed Mockie Abramson, Holly Grove, to the Old State House Commission for a term expiring March 19, 2017, replacing Jack Coop.

(I work at the Old State House and I'm glad to hear this!)
