Holly Grove High School Class of 1952 had their 56th class reunion in the beautiful Jonesboro home of Betty Jean Harrod and Billy Gerlach. The reunion was Saturday, June 7. Twelve classmates of the 26 graduating members attended.
Classmates and spouses attending were: Wayne and Margaret Beadles, Billy and Margaret Brooks, Ruth Grimes Sides, Betty Jean Harrod and Billy Gerlach, Jenny Johnson and Jim Hamilton, Gloria Jean Johnson Lewis, Libby King Hansen, Ken Lynch, Estelle McCoy and Tom Catlett, Frank and Jenny Miller, Bobby and Pauline Moore, Vernon and Glenna Gray. Their former teacher Margo Low and husband Bob also were in attendance.
Those unable to attend were James Beard, Julia Hill Hudson, Jeanette Kannada Lamp, Dorothy McCurley Davis, Shirley McNeill Crawford, Norman Self, Barbara Shaw Williams and Kenny Turner.
Six deceased members were Mary Brown, Minnie Belle Dunavan, Joe Moran, Betty Jo Morrison, Nathan Newby and Mary Rogers.
Those not attending missed an outstanding dinner of fried chicken, ribs, cut green beans, cream style corn, coleslaw, squash casserole, potato salad, beets, heavenly hash, rolls, bread and butter pickles, dill pickles, sweet pickles, fruit salad, Jello salad, hummingbird cake, cherry delight, coconut pie, chocolate pie and pecan pie. All food was prepared by Betty Jean, with a little help from her daughter Alice and her husband. Most of the vegetables were raised in Billy's garden.
