RE: Carlee Latham-Teacher of the Year

Just wanted to put a congratulations on here to Mrs. Latham.  She was my 4th grade teacher and I absolutely love her to death.  Her daughter Fralana was a grade higher than me, but was still one of my best friends throughout my school days.  We still stay in touch via the internet and often exchange memories of our childhood days.  Great job Mrs. Latham!!  I hope you realize that you have touched my life and I will never forget you.

Clarendon and Holly Grove Elementary Schools have announced the recipients of their annual Teacher of the Year awards. This year's recipeints are Vickie Lewis at clarendon Elementary and Carlee Latham at Holly Grove Elementary. The Teacher of the Year award is determined by nominations from the staff and is voted on by the staff.

... Carlee Latham has a total of 39 years teaching experience, 36 of which have been at Holly Grove Elementary School. She received her high school education from Holly Grove Vocational School and attended Mary Holmes Junior College in West Point, Mississippi, for two years  before transferring to AM&N College, now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, for two years, where she received her Bachelor of Science in education degree. She received her Master's Degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Latham has taught all self-contained classes in first through fourth grades during her 39 years teaching, except for the past two years where she has focused on reading recovery and math.

"I've always wanted to be that teacher that a student remembers," Latham said. "I still remember the teacher that meant that to me. I want to be the teacher that makes an impact on a child. I want them to see a positive image of me."

Lathem is the mother of two children, Fralana Latham, who is employed at Otis Elevator and Engineering in St. Louis, Mo., and Franklin Latham Jr., who is employed in the recreation department at Arkansas State Hospital in Little Rock. She also helped raise a son, Michael Johnson, through high school. Johnson currently lives in Stuttgart.
