BRINKLEY -- Robert James Banks, 66, of Brinkley, formerly of Holly Grove, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Cla-Clif Nursing and Rehab Center in Brinkley. He was born Oct. 5, 1941, in Holly Grove to Albert Banks and Ireather Piggee Banks. He was raised in the Pine City community and attended school at the Holly Grove School District.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pine City. He worked as a farmer for several years. He briefly moved to Chicago, Ill., where he lived and worked before returning to Arkansas. He was a resident of Cla-Clif Nursing and Rehab Center in Brinkley for more than 24 years. He loved taking long walks and sitting outside the nursing center complex under the trees. He had a kind and gentle soul. He truly loved the times his brothers, Emerson, Larry and John would come and spend time with him and take him for his medical treatments.
Survivors are his daughter, Patricia Banks-Parks of Chicago, Ill.; his mother, Ireather Piggee Banks of Little Rock; a brother, John C. Banks and wife Tina of Marvell; five sisters, Alberta Banks of Chicago, Nora Pettis and husband Josh of Joliet, Ill., Pearl May Day and husband Reuben and Lorice "Gold Day and husband Addison, all of Little Rock, and Charlyne Banks-Miles of Detroit, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Gizor M. Enlow-Banks of Holly Grove; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sept. 27 at First Baptist Church in Pine City with Rev. W.R. Parks officianting. Internment was in Pine City Cemetery by Branscumb Johnson and Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
