HOLLY GROVE Weston Williams, 81, of Holly Grove, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the McClellan V.A. Medical Center in Little :Rock.
He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Holly Grove to Johnny Williams and Pearl Branch Williams. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul AME Church in Holly Grove. He formerly served as the church clerk.
"Coot," as he was affectionately known, served his country honorably in World War II. He was a skilled carpenter, electrician and plumber. He was self employed for many years as a carpenter. He built and repaired many homes and structures throughout the Holly Grove area.
He loved fishing, hunting, carpentry, baseball and basketball. He was a huge fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Willie Ketchum.
Survivors are a son, Donald Williams of San Diego; four daughters, Vernia Bobo of Holly Grove, Inez Smith and husband, Hezekiah, of Little Rock, Vera Virgil of Chicago, and Reata Owens of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sisters, Jessie Smith and husband, LeRoy, of Detroit, Maxine Little and husband, Howard, of Brentwood, Calif., and Esterene Flowers and husband, Allease, of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul AME Church in Holly Grove, with Rev. Tyler officiating. Internment was in Hayes Cemetery at Holly Grove.
Pallbearers were Dexter Jackson, Leonard Jackson, Robert B. Artis, Martell Smith, Jermell Williams and Terry Williams.
