Marvell -- Elizabeth Ann Washburn, 79, died April 4, 2009, at her home in Marvell. She was born Feb. 22, 1930, the daughter of William and Susie Wakefield Brown. She taught school for 50 years, including Brinkley, Moro, Marvell public and Marvell Academy schools. She worked as a school counselor at Marvell Academy and director of the annual staff during her last years of employment. She enjoyed playing piano, taking pictures, doing crossword puzzles, raising pretty flowers and writing letters and stories.
She was married to Robert Neil "Bobby" Washburn on June 25, 1953. They were married 54 years until his death on Nov. 27, 2007.
She is survived by three sons, Bill Washburn and wife Valerie of Bartlett, Tenn., Neil Washburn and wife Beth of Stuttgart, and Donald Ray Washburn and wife Barbie of Marvell; five grandchildren, Ty, B.J., Robert Paul, Will and Korni Washburn.
Graveside services were held April 7 at Turner Cemetery with Bro. Kirk Doering officiating. Arrangements were by Bob Neal & Sons-Brickell Funeral Home, Marvell.
Pallbearers were Jim Hindsley, Todd Russell, Bill Heidelberger, Richard Wooten, Adam Catlett and Risher Bolden. Honorary pallbearers were Stanley Russell, Kenneth Crisp and Robin Clatworthy.
Memorials may be made to the Helena National Bank c/o Elizabeth Washburn Scholarship Fund or the Marvell United Methodist Church.
