HOLLY GROVE -- George Holcombe, 62, died Saturday, Oct.17, 2009, at his home in Holly Grove. He was born March 6, 1947, in Holly Grove to the late Woodrow and Willie Holcombe and had remained a resident of that community for his lifetime.
He was a 1965 graduate of Holly Grove High School and was currently employed in the maintenance division of the Arkansas Highway Department based in Stuttgart. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon where he served as music director.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Sue Holcombe; and a sister, Ora Mae Elder.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Linda Harris Holcombe; son, Richard Holcombe and wife, Lisa; daughter, Martha James and husband, Eli, all of Stuttgart; step-children Rickey and Gina Burns of Austin, Jimmy and Dale Burns of Springdale, Tammy and Johnny Ellis of Clarendon; brothers Leroy Adams and wife, Elizabeth of Holly Grove, Johnny Adams and wife, Alice of Clarendon, twin sister, Georgia Holcombe of Stuttgart; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 20 at the First Baptist Church in Clarendon, with burial following in the Shady Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home in Clarendon.
