Robert Edward Low, Jr.

Robert Edward Low Jr. age 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He was born August 8, 1923 in Mounds, Oklahoma. At age 3, Bob's parents, Robert and Zelma (Berstler) Low moved from Oklahoma and settled in Brinkley, Arkansas. After graduating from Brinkley High School in 1941, Bob attended Arkansas Tech University and the College of the Ozarks. In 1951 he graduated with honors from the St. Louis School of Pharmacy.

As owner of Low's Drug Store Bob treated his clients with more than prescriptions, giving them a generous dose of kindness, care and compassion. In the evening he and Margo delivered prescriptions to the elderly, always allowing time to hear how their day was going. He was a member of the Arkansas Pharmacy Association, past District President of Pharmacists, served on the Arkansas State Board of Health, as a Monroe County Health Unit consultant and as pharmacist to Mercy Hospital. His clients and their well being served as the backbone of his business and gave Bob the fortitude to continue at Low's Drug for 40 years. In 1988 Low's Pharmacy was honored as one of the Outstanding Pharmacies in the United States and in 2001 Bob received his 50 Year Certificate in Pharmacy.

Bob served in the US Navy during World War II as a Seabee in Europe, continuing his support of the troops through membership in American Legion Post #68. His outstanding record of community service included membership in the Brinkley Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Zoning Commission and Masonic Lodge #295, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. During his tenure as President of the Lions Club he was instrumental in bringing the annual NECA Horse Show to the Brinkley arena.

The heartbeat of Bob Low was love for God and family. As a young man, Bob's romantic heart was captured by Marguerite McKoy. They were married in 1956 at the Methodist Church in Holly Grove and soon their home was filled with the joy of two little girls. Through the years Bob developed a love for snow skiing and became an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was a charter member of the Vogel Hunting Club. As a an active member of the Brinkley First Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and the Sharp Class. Bob loved Brinkley, worked hard to make it a better place and always had time to listen to those in his daily walk. May we rejoice in the knowledge that this beloved man of our community, one who helped so many in their health and well being, is now resting surrounded by the love of The Great Physician.

Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margo Low, daughters Dorcas Prince and husband Stan all of Brinkley and Rebecca Low and Keith Ohnmeis of Dallas, Texas.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Saturday at Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home, Brinkley. Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday at the Brinkley First Baptist Church with interment in Oaklawn Cemetery.
