BEEBE -- James Newell Edwards, 76, of Beebe, formerly of Holly Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at White County Medical Center in Searcy. He was born in the Dyer Community in Monroe County Dec. 12, 1933, to William and Gladys Lucille Jenkins Edwards. He worked for the Holly Grove Police Department for years and was supervisor over the bus mechanics at Holly Grove Schools. He had also served as fire chief for the Holly Grove Fire Department and was a former member of the Holly Grove American Legion Post. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Ruth Barkley Edwards; a son, Anthony Jones; a daughter, Marcia Harrison; a brother, William Edwards Jr.; and a sister, Alice Mae Edwards Morrow.
Survivors are his wife of 32 years, Patsy Ruth Edwards of the home; two sons, James Richard Edwards of Coney and Timmy Jones of Beebe; four daughters, Cheryl Chiccone and husband, Tom, of Centerville, Md., Crystal Wall and husband, Jody, of Lonoke, Tonya Edwards of Houston, Texas, and Angie Adams and husband, Michael, of Waynesboro, Miss.; a brother, Nathan Edwards, and wife, Mary Frances, of Romance; three sisters, Vicki McCampbell and husband, Joe of Knoxville, Tenn., Deborah Gosa and husband, L.D., of Sheridan and Barbara Ann Collums and husband, Robert, of Dardanelle; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Fowler Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley with Bro. Jerry Hopper officiating. Burial was in McCurley Cemetery at Holly Grove. Pallbearers were Zach Wall, Brandon Waddell, Cain Harrison, Ricky Morrow, Matthew Hubbard and Dean Morris. Honorary pallberers were Danny Singleton, Donnie Barkley and Michael Harrison.
