HOLLY GROVE -- Deacon Willie Miller, 95, of Chicago, formerly of Holly Grove, died Feb. 12, 2010. He was born to Rebecca and John Miller Sept. 7, 1914, in Holly Grove. He was educated in the local schools. As a young adult, he attended barber college and became a licensed barber for over 60 years. He also drove the public school bus for over 35 years. He met and married Emma Lou Williams April 20, 1937. A servant for the Lord, he commited his life to Christ at an early age at St. Luke M.B. Church. He held many offices in the local and state associations. Attending St. Luke or any church function was his life. He loved being in the service of the Lord. Singing praises was the joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Almeter, Pearlie, Carrie, Lucille; four brothers, Eugene, Leroy, Odie and Wilford; his parents; and two daughters, Alma Jean and Maxine.
He is survived by his children, Willie C. and Mildred, Gertie Rose, Odie C. and Liz, Joyce and Alvin, Curdell and Artis, Larry, Dianne and Columbus; a host of grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren, over six generations; loving nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends; and a dear friend. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, at noon at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Holly Grove with Retis Parks officiating. Burial will be in Hayes Cemetery at Holly Grove by McNeal-Calahan Funeral Home of Brinkley.
Pall bearers are Anthony, Kenneth and Richard Cross; Curdell Miller Jr., Terrell Miller, Jermell Miller; Marshall Jones and Conan Smiley.
