HOLLY GROVE -- Rev. Fred Andrew Abram Jr., 67, of Holly Grove, died April 7, 2010, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Hazen to Fred Abram Sr. and Essie Davis-Abram. He was one of four children born to this union. He attended school in Union City, Tenn., and was a 1958 graduate of Miles High School in Union City. He was a 1962 graduate of Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala., earning a BA degree in English. He was a membmer of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Grove and was the pastor for 16 years before retiring due to illness. He was a former Sunday school teacher (class #6), member of deacon board, and he also sang with the Holly Grove Male Chorus.

He was an educator for more than 30 years. He taught English in Macon, Ga., for more than five years. He completed his career in teaching after teaching in the Holly Grove School System for more than 25 years before retiring in 2003. After completing his college education he went on to manage a Church's Chicken franchise in Macon, Ga.., for more than three years before starting his teaching career.

He was very active in his community and church. He was a member of the Holly Grove Homecoming Club, a Boy Scout Troop leader and a member of the Holly Grove Chapter of Habitat for Humanity Committee.

He was an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball. He was an accomplished artist, spending countless hours painting and drawing portraits. He also truly loved singing and preaching the word of the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Jean Harrell; two brothers, Frank Abram and Ralph Abram.

Survivors are his wife of 29 years, Addie B. Abram of Holly Grove; a son, Brian Abram of Holly Grove; two grandchildren, Keyston Murrell of Kansas City, Kan., and Jordan Julius Abram of Holly Grove; two special cousins, Dorothy Rounsville and Catherine Sims, both of Hazen; and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Holly Grove with Rev. Cedric Hawkins officiating. Interment will take place in Pine City Cemetery at Pine City by Branscumb Johnson and Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.

Pall bearers are Antonio Jackson, Brandon Cartwright, Michael Young, Ken Reed, Marshall Hall, Steve Tyler, DeWayne Polk and Wilie Grayson.
