Learning to fish on Dial Creek west town: In the spring we caught some good Bream and goggle eyes. But in the hotter part of summer, fishing was slow. So the McNabb boys taught us to catch carp and grindle. They fought hard and we had a lot of fun. We would take these fish up through "Baptist Bottoms" and the people in the black community would give us a nickle a piece for those grindle and carp. The 3 McNabb boys knew how to get around easily in the Dial Creek Bottoms. The oldest boy loved to catch a water snake and giving it a swing around and pop its head off like the crack of a whip. One spring they led 6 or 8 of us down to the creek to go skinny dipping. They some sheet metal that had been on a tin roof and fashioned a "canoe" type boat for us. The nail holes were plugged up with melted rubber from an inner tube. We had a great time swimming and boating. -Bob Lambert
