Holly Grove vs. Brinkley
Lively Baseball Tilts Between Two Crack Teams
The baseball fever in Brinkley since the finishing of East Side Park is becoming more intense.
This week has witnessed two splendid games between the Brinkly and Holly Grove clubs.

The 1st game was on Tuesday afternoon when the line up was as follows:
Holly Grove
C.      John Williamson
P.        J.H. Sutton, Jr.
1st b    Alex McGregor
2nd      Ed Schusler
3rd      Ed Williamson
s.s.      Sam Williamson
C.f.     Joe McGregor
C.f.     Andrew Sylar
R.f.     J.I. Sperry
Clarendon
C.        Joe Kennedy
P.          Ruel Henderson
1st b.    Earl Sanfor
2nd       Elmo Chaney
3rd       Walter Brown
s.s.       Nen Peterson
C.f.     Louis Brown
C.f.     Harry Norman
R.f.     Hilton LaBalle

Thos. Parks and H.G. Mitchell, umpires.  The score of this game stood 9 to 5 in favor of Brinkley.  The feature of the game was the perfect work of Elmo Chaney for Brinkley.  He played 2nd in such a way as to captivate the crowd.  Twas the finest work of the kind ever seen on the Brinkley diamond.
The game was pretty until the wrangling started and it looked like it was anybody’s game up until the 6th inning when the H.G. boys got discouraged over the decisions and allowed five runs on two hits.
Thos. Parks of Clarendon was umpiring and his decisions were unsatisfactory to the Brinkley boys who refused to continue the game until a new umpire was put up.  This was conceded by the H.G. boys and H.G. Mitchell of this city did the judging for the balance of the game with satisfaction to both sides.

The H.G. boys were to go to DeVall’s Bluff to play Wednesday but on account of a death at DeVall’s Bluff, abandoned the game and played here instead.
There was a slight change in the line up of the Wednesday game.
The score for Wednesday was Brinkley 0, H.G. 12.
The following Holly Grove people were along with their clever boys to help ‘em boost:  J.H. Sutton, J.E. Williamson, Tom Connelly, and Bruce Franks.

–The 1st game of the season was played Friday afternoon between West Helena and Holly Grove. It was a splendid game and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The score was 3 to nothing in favor of Holly Grove. Our boys looked good in new suits and the way each one played. I am sure repaid the business men of our town for donating the suits. Our boys go to West Helena April 9. Everybody who can go and encourage the boys to win.
