-"The Alumni banquet given on Thursday before Christmas by the graduates of Holly Grove High School, was a great event and was greatly enjoyed by all.  The officers chosen for the ensuing year were: Pres. Jim Matthews; Vice Pres. Miss Dot Davidson; sec-treasurer Miss Bessie Mae Matthews.  All will look forward with pleasant anticipation to the coming of this annual event another year.  Plates were laid for forty guests."

-The [Better] Health Train was a success here, over 400 people visited the train and heard the talks and viewed the exhibits. Some good advice was given the people of our little city.

-Miss Kent, the demonstrator sent by the White Crest Flour Company, was in our city at Frank’s & William’s store, where she gave a demonstration for three days. Quite a crowd attended each day. A sack of White Crest Flour was given away each afternoon at four o’clock, also other prizes. The S.I.A. realized $4.

Holly Grove School Holds Fall Festival
"The Holly Grove Fall Festival was held Friday night in the gym at the Holly Grove High School.  A very large crowd was present in spite of the snow, sleet, and rain.  Each grade had a booth and after they were closed, a very interesting program, directed and presented by Mrs. Zelda Shawler, was given.  Last on the program was the coronation of the Kings and Queens, sophomores, Patsy Calloway and Holbert Hill and second grade representatives, Paul Jackson and Keith Bennett.  Proceeds from the festival netted $532.00."
"Following is the list of contestants for King and Queen of the carnival; senios Ann Henderson and Bobby Walker; juniors Betty Skinner and Woodrow Hill; sophomores Patsy Calloway and Holbert Hill; freshmen Nancy Calloway and Dickie Huffman; eighth grade, Louise Barkley and Donald Gene Coleman; seventh grade, Martha Ann Brown and Dickie Webb; sixth grade, Ann Palmer and Bill Stone; fifth grade, Mary Hall and Frank Newby; fourth grade, Kay Palmer and Bob Williamson; fourth and fifth grades, Annie Moseley and Donald Ray Chism; third and fourth grades, Sandra Chastain and David Bryant; third grade, Jimmie Ray Capfena and Don Speck; second grade, Paula Jackson and Keith Bennett; first grade, Jennifer Carty and Johnny Johnson."
"The musical program began with a faculty skit composed of: Teacher Elmer Lee Bennett, Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. Sylar, Miss Moffat, Miss Berryman, Miss Blasingame, Miss Walston, Mrs. Shawler, Mr. Speck, Mr. Clifton, Mr. Gardner, Mr. Moore, Mr. Robey, and Mr. Turner.  A Rhythm Band made up of first and second grade children and with Sandra Sain as leader was next, followed by a song and dance routine, "Little Nellie in the Paw Paw Patch" performed by third and fourth grade children with Betty Story and Len Fagan as leaders."
"The fourth number on the program was a tap dance by Raymond Abramson followed by a vocal solo, "No More", by Betty Ann Reid accompanied by Sue Calloway.  Vivian Williamson sang the next number on the program, "Honeycomb".  Next was a Fairy Dance, composed of Mother Fairy, Anna Lee Barham and fairies, Jane Henderson, Tom LeFevers, Linda Sue Dilliard, Sue Webster, Linda Stone, and Bobby Faye Phillips."
"A novelty song, "Just Between You and Me", was sung by Barbara Webster, Harvey Nolin, Vivian Williamson, Ronnie Jackson, Dale Speck, and Micheal Calloway, followed by "Four Walls", sung by the Junior High School Girls Ensemble, composed of Sandra Breeding, Sandra Glover, Linda Glover, Rose Ann Jackson, Diane Lambert, Amy Dial, and Joyce Coggins."
"The tenth item on the program was a vocal solo, "St. Louis Blues" sung by Pat Kannady followed by a tap dance performed by members of the fourth grade, Jeannie Johnson, Kaye Endsley, Holly Almond, Susan Patterson, Teresa Spurlock, and Patricia Lambert.  An excellent performance with 2 weeks instruction.  Sammy Breeding, Harry Sylar, and Larry Stone performed a hobo song, "One and One Make Three".
"After this, "Fascination" was sung by Dale Speck, and "When You're Smiling" was performed by Karen Everett, Julia Ann Walls, Barbara Webster, Dorothy Helm, Vivian Williamson, and Dale Speck.  The fifth grade children then gave a song and dance, Polly Wally Doodle"....
