Well I agree with you about his hair; he tried to keep it slicked back in 34th Street. A quick google indicates that he and O'Hara may have been in several movies together but I have not spent any time looking for them. Christmas is not far off; somebody will need to volunteer to watch the movie!!!!!
Great photo, Marvin! I still contend that he was wearing a suit in almost every scene of "Miracle on 34th Street." And Maureen O'Hara's hair style is different and not as "piled up" on top in "Miracle" as in the first photo. I guess the answer may lie in the answer to: What movie other than "Miracle on 34th Street" starred both John Payne and Maureen O'Hara????
That loop of hair on the forehead was a Payne trademark. I am not sure if we have identified the movie but he did not keep it completely hidden in 34th Street.
Definitely Maureen O'Hara, and I don't know John Payne well enough to identify. But I do not beleive this image is from "Miracle on 34th St." The male lead in that film plays a very proper and suited lawyer in every scene. I don't know of any scene that showed the two leads embracing in this manner, and certainly not with his hair all disheveled and hanging down.
I tend to agree with Marvin Gerlach about this being John Payne and Maureen O'Hara. These two played the part of a little girl's mother, a clerk at Macy's in New York, who taught her little girl there was no such thing as Santa Claus. The male character (Payne) was one of the store's managers. He encouraged the little girl to believe in Santa. In the end Payne and O"Hara became unoffically engaged and they all believed in Santa and Christmas. I am more sure of her than him. My first thought was he was Clark Gable until I turned the photo upright. Thank you Marvin for helping me remember John Payne.
