Carolyn Moffatt, 71, a retired teacher and former member of the faculty at Holly Grove High School, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at her home in Hot Springs. She taught at Holly Grove High School from 1956-1965. She was the Junior High girls’ basketball coach and assistant coach for the Senior High team. She taught history and was a guidance counselor. She went on to serve as women’s head basketball coach at Ouachita Baptist University from 1965-1984. She served as assistant coach for the 1971 USA Women's World Championship Basketball Team, which competed in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She was the first woman to be inducted into the Ouachita Baptist University Hall of Fame (2003). She was also named to the AAU Hall of Fame and Ashley County Hall of Fame. She was born May 4, 1934, at Crossett, to Wade and Thelma Boyd Moffatt. She was a charter member of Hot Springs Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Friend Bible Study Class. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, William and Gwendolyn Moffatt of Crossett; her stepmother, Dean Moffatt Sweatman of Camden; and two nieces and one nephew. Services were held Oct. 4 at Hot Springs Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Taylor officiating. Burial was at Old Crossett Cemetery at Crossett. Pallbearers were Fred White, Calvin Roach, Orval Allbritton, Dan Cain, Robert Ledford, Carl Jensen and Norman Stark. Honorary pallbearers were Francelle Ledford, Mary Jane Jones, Carolyn Kauffman, Edna Love, Kathy Reed, Charles Oxford, Illeen Carter, Olivia Amis, Bernell Caldwell and Hazel Gossett.
