Lula Tyler announces her candidacy for re-election as Mayor of the City of Holly Grove. If elected, this will be Tyler's fourth term. She is currently completing her 12th year as mayor.
Tyler is a life-long resident of Holly Grove and has worked to accomplish many projects during her tenure. Some major accomplishments include the building of two sub-divisions, one on Catlett Drive and one on Tyler Drive. A home program was also constructed under her administration with three new houses built and three being rehabilitated.
Other accomplishments include a $1,247,527 sewer and water rehabilitation project. New equipment has also be purchased under Tyler's administration including a backhoe, two new police cars and a new fire truck. Employees also have a retirement plan, long-term disability and hospitalization plans.
The city's walking trail and rehabilitation of lights on the mall have also been completed under Tyler's direction.
New projects underway include a community center and renovation of the former Bank of Holly Grove building to be used for a city hall and information center.
Tyler noted that her future projects are to include city sidewalks and a downtown senior citizens apartment complex which will include individual washer and dryer units.
Tyler noted that Holly Grove is an isolated area and citizens are experiencing poverty as well as depression.
"The school consolidation has had a devastating impact on the citizens' morale. In order to mobilize the town, there must be volunteers involved to get things going," Tyler said.
