My father Leroy Adams retired from the Air Force, my brother Mike retired from the Navy and Vance who died in his senior year at HG was in the National Guard. Leslie and I are the smart ones of the family who joined the Army. I served in the first Gulf war and Somaila and Leslie is still serving.
I served in the USAF in Korea in1953 and in Vietnam in 1964. The far eastern countries are beautiful except for the wars. Ralph E. Hall Capt USAF retired
Our family had men who served in World War I,World War II, and Korea. I wrote an article in Ja. 1996 for the Monroe County Sun on this topic and it was printed along with pictures of the men who served. You may be able to get a copy of this by contacting the Brinkley Argus editor Thomas Jacques at brinkleyargus@sbcglobal.net.
This is not in relation to a family member of mine ... but I understand that among the women who were in the service during World War II were Phronia Breeding Calloway and Ruth West of Holly Grove. I don't know what branch of the service or where they served, but perhaps family members might provide more details. I would love to read about their experiences. They certainly were among the first women to move into this male-dominated field.
Did you or a family member serve in the military and/or serve during a war (Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc)? Do you have stories and memories you could share about your experiences?
