GLENDA DeLONG DAVIDSON, 96, of Memphis, formerly of Holly Grove, AR, died on August 5, 2007, at Saint Francis Hospital. She was the widow of Junius Edward Davidson Jr. She is survived by Junius Edward Davidson, III and William Van Davidson, both of Memphis; four grandchildren, Andrew Bowen Davidson of Raleigh NC, William Chadwick Davidson of Minneapolis, MN, Shannon Davidson Pflasterer of Raleigh NC, and Lee Davidson of Memphis. Her daughters-in-law are Marilee Ay**** Davidson and Sharon Solomito Davidson of Memphis.
Glenda was educated in Malden MO, attended Wayne State University in Michigan, and the University of Memphis where she was voted "Best All-Around" athlete and was a star on the basketball team in the early 1930s. In 1988, she was inducted to the University of Memphis Athletic Hall of Fame for its All Sports division for her contributions and sportsmanship in track, tennis and basketball from 1930-1934.
Over the years, she directed several parks and community centers in Memphis. In 1990, the Memphis Park Commission inducted her into its Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for outstanding ability, dedication and contribution to the sport of tennis. In 2006, she and her husband were honored for their interest in parks and nature conservation with the naming of the "Junius E. and Glenda D. Davidson Special Events" pavilion at the Lichterman Nature Center in East Memphis. She was most often thought of as a very supportive person with a positive outlook on life.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 10, at the family cemetery on the Davidson farm north of Holly Grove, AR.
