obituary of Bingley P. Jackson Jr.


HOLLY GROVE Bingley P. Jackson, Jr. age 85, of Holly Grove, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2008. He was born on July 7, 1922, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, one of seven children born to the late Bingley and Miriam Burge Jackson.

Bingley was a lifetime resident of the community, a graduate of Holly Grove High School and served his country in the United States Army/Air Force during World War II. On September 19, 1943, at the Grand Avenue Methodist Church in Stuttgart, Bingley married Georgia Etta Knoll and together they raised a family of three sons, Bingley IV, Phillip and George.

Bingley owned and operated Jackson Farms, served many years as supervisor for the Arkansas Agricultural Statistics Service and received the Farm Family of the Year award in 1958. He was a member of the Holly Grove Presbyterian Church, the American Legion and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

His many interests included fishing and traveling. Among his favorite places to visit were Florida, Maine and New York. During his lifetime, Bingley wore many hats but his favorite would be the one called friend. He loved being with people and often uplifted their day with his unique sense of humor. His many years of love, friendship, dedication and hard work have left a great imprint upon the hearts of those left to cherish his memory.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Georgia Etta Jackson of Holly Grove; sons Bingley Jackson IV and wife Kelly of Monroe, Louisiana, Phillip Jackson and wife Linda of Holly Grove, George Jackson and wife Cheryl of Jonesboro, Arkansas; a brother, Decatur Jackson and wife Judy of Holly Grove; a sister, Erin Coggins of Truman, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Joe, Michelle, Jett, Melanie, Julie and Kayla, and two great grandchildren, Case and Georgia. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Wellington and John Jackson, sisters Virginia Hall and Ann Roberts.

Services will be Jan. 16 at Holly Grove Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Fern Davis and Rev. Jerry Hopper. Burial with military honors will follow at Macedonia Cemetery. Those serving as casket-bearers are George Knoll, John Knoll, Richie Knoll, Houghlin Fontenot, Jackie Coggins, Jeff Coggins, Bill Hall and John Leathers. Honorary pallbears include the Elders of the church, and Gene & Flo Miller, Neal & Bobbie Harrod, Henry & Maxine Newby, Billy & Mary Ann Reynolds, Elizabeth Stone, Billie Richardson, Ruth Dearing, Dave Inebenit, Ronnie Jackson and Frank Smith.

Memorials may be sent to the Holly Grove Presbyterian Church, 2nd & Spruce St., Holly Grove, AR 72069, or Macedonia Cemetery, 51 Kirkpatrick Lane, Holly Grove, AR 72069 .
