obituary of Phillip Lammers

from the May 25, 2008, Central Delta Argus-Sun:

HOLLY GROVE Phillip Lee Lammers, 57, of Holly Grove, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the George E. Wahlen Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on Feb. 21, 1951, in Jonesboro to Geraldine Jones Lammers and the late Joseph Willis Lammers. His entry into the U.S. Army began in June of 1970. During his duty in Nancy, France, he met his future wife, Elisabeth Wlodarczyk. He was on his way to a Pink Floyd concert, stopped by the campus where she was to ask directions to the concert. Elisabeth was asked to interpret for the English-speaking solders, and the rest is history. He never made it to the concert. There was a very special time that out of a troop of 1,000 soliders destined for Vietnam, he was chosen to go to Belgium instead. No one ever knew why. After his discharge, he and Elisabeth made the move to Holly Grove, and it was at this time he began operation of his own trucking business. He loved to tinker with things, just to see hjow they worked, whether he actually got them put back together or not. He loved to travel, and during the seven years of military duty he and Elisabeth enjoyed seeing many parts of the world, but Holly Grove would always be home.

He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; a son, Gregory Lammers, and wife, Tara, of Norcross, Ga.; a daughter, Stephanie Turner and husband, Chad, of Hot Springs; his mother, Geraldine Lammers of Holly Grove; a brother, Danny Lammers and wife, Gale, of Marvell; sisters Donna Alliston of Little Rock, Kathleen Gaglione and husband, Anthony, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Lisa Jones and husband, D.J., of Clarendon; and grandchildren Braeden and Eva Lammers and Luke Turner.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 16 at the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Ragtown. Memorials may be given to Wahlen VAMC, 500 Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84148. Attention: Volunteer Service, in  memory of Phillip Lammers-MICU Unit. Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
