obituary of Fred Terry Johnson


Fred T. Johnson was called home by his Heavenly Father, Saturday, September 13th, 2008.

He was born March 12th, 1933, in Holly Grove, AR. During his high school years, he was a star athlete in Football & Tennis. He then graduated from Henderson State Teachers College, Arkadelphia, AR, with a B.S. Degree, in 1955.

His parents instilled a great love of nature that continued throughout his entire life. He was an advocate for Boy Scouts at which he held the highest honor given, Eagle Scout.

He had a passion for his family and sports, especially football, as he was the president of two high school booster clubs located in Austin & San Antonio.

He had a great love for fishing & hunting throughout the state of Arkansas and Texas in which he passed on this love to his children & grandchildren.

His faith originated in his early years under the guidance of his mother, Mama Rose. During the course of his life, his faith helped sustain the everyday challenges. He had a special way of touching everyone as he made you feel comfortable and special.

Fred began his lifelong career with Dillard's Department Store in 1955 in sales and concluded his career as Vice President, Sales Promotion, Texas, New Mexico division in 1986.

He was well known for his humor and very approachable by all that interacted with him. His most popular saying he was known for was "Hold it in the road".

The most affectionate memories of his grandchildren include Danny's high school graduation, walks with his Pawpaw and rides on the sky ride, Lauren's active mentoring of children, Melissa's love of decorating, John's love of basketball, David's love of scuba diving, Michael's football talent which lead him to Ole Miss, Thomas's love of fishing, Katie's talent for photography, Kaitlyn's love of singing, and Hunter's love of hunting & fishing.

Preceding him in death is his father Fred Johnson.

Survivors of his family are his wife, Susan Walker-Johnson; mother, Virginia Rose Johnson, of Bella Vista, AR and sister, Jenny Hamilton & spouse Jim of Centeron, AR and Brother-in-law Ralph C. Dearing Jr. & spouse Diana of Alvin, TX. Children are Terry Johnson & spouse Cathy of Rogers, AR; Jeff Johnson & spouse Corinne of Little Rock, AR; Julie Funk & spouse Jeff of Bulverde, TX and Tiffany Cannedy & spouse Brook of Van Buren, AR. Grandchildren are Danny Johnson, Lauren Hall, Melissa Haynes, John Hall, David Johnson, Michael Johnson, Thomas John Funk, Katie Funk, Kaitlyn Cannedy, and Hunter Cannedy. Faithfull K-9 companions are Jackson & Gidget.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council, 2226 NW Military Hwy, Ste. 119, San Antonio, Texas 78213-1850.
