"Ramblings" column by Bill Sayger, director, Central Delta Depot Museum in Brinkley
My last column dealt in part with the grade school at Blackton, part of the Holly Grove School District years ago. A call for Blackton pictures was answered by Betty Clemons Beadles.
One of the photos shown was probably taken in the late 1940s of the Blackton school and a teacher with her students. The other shows the 1950-51 first-, second- and third-grade class with their teacher, Mrs. Cothran. Identified students include Donald Coleman, David Clemons and Lonnie R. Norris.
We would appreciate the loan of any pictures taken in Blackton so that they can be scanned and others can enjoy them, too.

Henry Wilks has given us a 1951 Lion (Clarendon) school yearbook and the 1952 yearbook of the Panthers (Holly Grove). I have never received any information about a grade school at Blackton, but the Holly Grove books has the photos of its two teachers and 57 students. [Mrs. Cothran taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades at the Blackton school in 1952, and Mr. Cothran taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades.]
Two Blackton firms had advertisements in the book: The Blackton Cash Store, W.L. Beadles, owner and manager, and T.E. Turner, general merchandise.
Doe anyone have pictures of the store or school at Blackton?
