RE: General Discussion

I  know that there were a few yearbooks in the library in 1995 that dated back to 1950-1970's because I looked through them and noticed many HG citizens in them and compared their teen years to the kids they had that I knew.  There weren't many, but some must have been salvaged after the fire unless they were donated.  I would like to have at least a copy of my senior class photo. It hung in the high school principals office.  I paid for a copy of it, but never got one.  I also loaned out my cheerleader uniform and never got it back. It cost me almost $200.00, but I guess I won't get it back.....

HGHS memorabilia

A mention has been made elsewhere at this site about memorabilia from Holly Grove High School. Does anyone know what happened to the old school trophies, team photos, awards and other items that once were displayed in the old HGHS building?

Emily Johnson reports that she went in search of an old yearbook some years ago and school administrators told her the yearbooks and Senior Class composite photos were lost in a fire (who remembers?.... was it the former Home Ec building that burned down? If so, I guess the yearbooks and composites were being stored there? ... I'm not sure).

When the old two-story brick high school building was being torn down, my mother managed to claim some of the bricks, a door and the long, wooden handrail to the stairs (don't ask me what she planned to do with it ... to her it was part of history! Plus, it held many memories of trudging up those stairs holding onto that railing!)

Back in the '40s and '50s, the football players used to get silver football charms that they would either pin on their letter jackets or give to their girlfriends. I still have the football that my Dad gave my Mom around 1949. Plus, we still have at least one of the black and gold letter jackets from HGHS (circa late 1940s).

It would be interesting to know what other memorabilia related to the school still exists.
