I'm not sure which were considered the "municipal" tennis courts.... In the 70s, there was a single tennis court in the lot adjacent to the HG Methodist Church (formerly the lot that held the old parsonage). If I recall correctly, some citizens (or maybe mostly Methodists?) pooled money to install the court because there was little recreation and hardly anywhere for kids to "hang out." Around the summer of 1974, I spent just about every day at the tennis court playing whoever was around. My instructor and regular tennis-playing partner was June Davidson, who had retired by this time and was living in HG. He was oh, about 60 years old that I, but could run circles around me on the tennis court. He was a wonderful person and I truly, truly enjoyed being around him. He was a dear friend.
Back in the 60s, I recall that the "blacktop" on the grounds of the HG High School was also a tennis court (when the nets were in place). I remember going up there with my folks and batting a tennis ball round. When I was in 5th and 6th grade, the blacktop was one of our primary play areas. It was located not far from the big oak tree, to the east of the high school building.
